Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Interprets project drawings and specifications Assess contract documents and prepare detailed cost estimates of the construction requirements. Collect pricing from subcontractors and suppliers. Establish major Purchase Orders and subcontracts for new projects. Establish the Project budgets to be used in the costing system. Work with the construction team in the preparation of change orders and the assessment of claims Responsible for accurate take-off of quantities from project drawings Responsible for the preparation and documentation of project estimates using EBC or other estimating packages Incorporates addendums to plans and specifications into on-going estimates Analyzes sub-trade quotations, liaises with subcontractors for clarification of issues Determines labour rates and equipment costs Prepares the original schedule on which the bid estimate is assembled Monitors trade publications for project leads Prepares bid bond applications Reviews job cost reports to determine where estimating can be improved Identifies risk areas and brings them to the attention of Risk Management Costs out potential scope of work changes Reviews and ensures that sub-contracts and PO’s meet agreed upon prices and conditions Costs out potential additional costs claim situations Prepares bid presentation for senior management Carries out special projects as requested Knowledge and Skills Minimum of 15 years heavy civil construction experience in a construction and/or estimating role. Engineering or business degree (or equivalent combinations of training). Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng ) preferred. Strong verbal and written skills are essential. Strong relationship skills to be maintained with both internal and external customers including customers, suppliers, financial partners, operations team and corporate executives. |
